More than half the time I just use two big hammers, after loosening the nut I hold one hammer up against the link(at the hole) with the tapered hole in it and then hit the other side of it with the other hammer, most of the time after a few good smacks, a light tap on the nut will usually pop them right out,,,,,,, I really hate it when I have to use the pickle fork, as you say it just destroys the boot In a message dated 4/11/2011 9:04:39 P.M. I have a fork - that tears the heck out of the boot plus I hate beating like hell on it. Then there's the U type joint separator with the screw in bolt - seems to twist off the cross link more times than not. Lastly, I have a Cromwell tie rod separator - the problem I have with it is that the screw head is up towards the engine and it's really hard to get a wrench on it. This is all relative to my '65 Belvedere. So, what cha got the works for you?
