Maybe someone else will comment also but here is my experience: I installed a good electric pump on my 63 SF. I installed it as close to the fuel tank as possible and put it on a switch. It worked great for starting, it primed the carb and it started instantly. PROBLEM: If the electric pump is not left on the mechanical pump will need to draw fuel through the electric pump and filter (I installed a filter before the electric pump per instructions that came with the pump). With a full fuel tank on a normal day this worked will until I dropped down to about 1/3 tank of fuel then it would start vapor locking until I turned the electric pump back on. On a hot day (Yuma) I was not able to go down to 1/2 tank before I started having trouble. Maybe there are better ways of installing the pump that works better than what I did. I have removed the mechanical pump and I am only using the electric pump and love it. I have it wired in correctly to the oil pressure switch for safety with an oil pressure switch designed for this purpose and I still have it on a switch that gives me manual on/off. I am looking for a electric fuel pump for my 64 but it is a stock car with stock exhaust and a poly. I want to find a pump that makes the least noise. Dennis C. Jim Altemose wrote: > > Tried that.
