Re: 440 crankshaft

Thanks Kevin, great idea. Do you need a special bit to drill a crankshat? I don't know how hard that material is. I am going to try that, and the good thing is- I don't have to load it up and take to a machine shop...........THANKS 1...................MO

hello gang, I have drilled th pilot hole for clearance only on assembled engines. Put a gm lage diameter bushing in the recess in the crank and use the pilot hole as a drill bushing and go! Use a drill with enough power to drive the drill bit and the drilled hole needs to be largr than the rans pilot. Dorman brand oilite bushings work best.Find a part store or machine shop with a selection of bushings for choices.

I have a complete assembled 440 engine that does not have
the pilot hole for a 4 speed input shaft.
I know you can get the sealed roller bearing to make
it work, but I think the input shaft end needs to be cut
off. I don't want to do that. If I do use the
sealed bearing -- does anyone know if the crank can be
clearance drilled for the stock input shaft with the
crank still in the engine? Facts
please...Thanks............................MO
