Re: old mopars drying up?

I agree with Neal, old cars in general are drying up.

They are getting older and have been sitting outside in junk yards rusting away, getting worse each passing year. As Mark stated, they are not even worth fixing up.

Which brings up another point.. “worth” fixing up. What are they worth? You get a lot of money tied up, especially Mopars. We all know this. I have my 65 Satellite for sale on the internet for a big year now and all I get is a scammer hit occasionally. I am asking $28K, including a 20’ car hauler. I don’t think that is outrageous, but the economy is bust. Again as Neal said, are sellers holding on hoping for better days, people just not buying or are these cars a thing of the past?

Me and wife are big car show fans and make a lot of them. Five years ago you would see a new car at every show, Now days you rarely see a “new arrival” If you do it is usually a vehicle that has come to the show from out of the area. Me and the wife do this, go a longer way, just to see different cars.

One other thing I would like to throw into the mix…I think the “classic car” thing is over with our generation. Kids now days are not interested. We are the generation that grew up with theses cars and watched them get better each year.

Herb brought up a good one too. Don’t know where all the Challengers came from either.

I would like to add one more vehicle to our fleet of junk. A pre-49. It will most probably be a “completed” vehicle. It is chipped in stone it will not be a 350 Chevy. I have been collecting pieces to build one, but I think it will be bought completed as you get more for your money. I don’t have the storage space until the Satellite sells and it looks as though it will never happen.

One more point. Most car shows are now “open” shows that allow new cars, i.e., Challengers, Camaros, Mustangs. This is just to get more cars. Look what the NSRA did by moving up the years.

Enough ramblings from Ollie.

The are getting rougher and rougher! What amazes me is were did all the
Challengers come from all of a sudden. Heck I think I see more old ones
then new ones as of late. Or maybe they are just migrating to this area.

man, yes, what people are calling projects, jeez, really scary. i have
seen some "projects" and I wouldnt touch them with a ten foot pole.
theres also a yard here in Eugene that used to deal in regular stuff,
but right before the crash they started saying they were going to all
classic cars. ther timing couldnt have been worse and i will be amazed
if they are even operational in a year. But the stuff they have there
is just pure junk, stuff so rusted away, looks like everything's been
pulled out of berry thickets or swamps or something. Stuff that five
years ago I might have called a parts car at best. Now they call them
projects. Even the big Mopar yard up here in Sandy Oregon, Wildcat,
doesnt really get anything in anymore, just junky crap like a 76
cordoba or somesuch stufff.
Guess I will just have to be grateful for my 4 mopars, enuf to keep
me busy for years

Yeah, I've noticed that as well. Especially the last two years or so.
I used to find stuff on a pretty regular basis(I'm in NJ), but the finds
have dropped dramatically. I think we lost quite a few rebuildables when
the
scrap prices shot up two years ago. Here it was over $16/100lbs. I picked
up
an '87 Ramcharger, tok off the bumpers, radiator, A/C compressor and
evaporator, wheels and a bunch of other stuff and still got nearly $500
for
scrap. One of the local junkyards closed to daily business and started
clearing out the old stuff and anything heavily picked over. They made 35k
in a month.
Seems all I can find now are really nice, expensive cars or completely
trashed projects not worth resurrecting.

Mark

Hi all, I have been noticing that here locally there just doesnt seem
to be that many old mopars ( or musclecars period) advertised as much
or as often as five years ago. Seems like the various craigslists
cities here in oregon used to offer up all sorts of mopars, but
lately over the last couple years, u just don't see that much
advertised. Can we assume that all the old Mopars have been harvested
or is the economy making people play their cards close to the chest
and hold out on selling hoping for a better day?
You guys used to tease me aBOUT HOW MANY mOPARS i WOULD FIND IN
OREGON HERE FOR SALE, some of which I bought, but now its a rare day.
Just wondering if you guys see this drying up in other parts of
the country as well
