RE: 8 3/4 yokes




I don't know if this got answered or not, so forgive me if this is redundant.
 
the small yoke was the 7260, 29 or 10 spline.  2 1/8 inch inside yoke
the large yoke is the 7290, 10 spline.  2 5/8 inch inside yoke 

You can see either from 62 to 72, but pretty much the 742 has the smaller
yoke, while the 489 case has the larger yoke.  '69 and later had the tapered pinion.  
Small pinion is 1 3/8 inch diameter, large has 1 3/4 inch, tapered is 1 7/8 inch.

There are u-joints available to adapt one size yoke to the other size drive shaft if you don't want to replace the yoke.  Ofcourse if you use a center section from a C body like I did,  thats a whole new ball game and you WILL be replacing the yoke.
