Re: SS Spring thing

Paul, your SS springs are 1" longer on the back segment than the spring specs in Nicks post. And you had a little problem mounting them , like as if they were to short. My head has stopped spinning and now spinning in the opposite direction. :-)........................MO

This thread has guys all over the world laying under their 'B' bodies
measuring their spring things ;-). Mine are the SS springs p/n's
P3690456 & 457, ordered from Jeg's, 3400#. They measure 20" on the
front section & 36" on the rear. I was tempted to report something odd
just to make everyone's head's spin, but that would be cruel.

Now I'm on a mission! Paul L and some of the other 63 B body owners,
 could
you please send me the front and rear length diminsons of your rear
springs
. It appears they are different between 64 and 65, so I want to find out

what the 63 are. Measure from the hole in the middle of the shock plate
to
the center of the pins . Thanks, ..................................MO

Yes Herb, I too thought it was figgered out, until I measured mine.
Maybe
Rich K would measure his and let us know. I think his is stock length
with
added leaves-not SS. I am beginning to think not all SS springs are
created
equal. Could it be that the companys that use 2" spacers be selling
shorter
springs like say A body SS springs-but heavier duty? That would be
cheaper
for them to stock less springs and make more money by selling the 2"
extensions. for B body's. Would they do something like
that??:-).........................MO

We had this conversation about 6 Months ago on the board and every one
came
to an agreement 62 / 63 20 inches no spacer and 64 / 65 22 inches two
inch
spacer for SS springs to fit. Now MO goes and throws a wrench in the
game
with a 64 with 20 inch spacing. (-: MO was your car an early
production
car that might have used 63 parts?? The conversation was about Layne
Grissman trying to fit just the SS springs with out spacers on a 64 and
had
to ultimately purchase the 2 inch spacers to have every thing align up.
You
know what they say, never say never!

I measured my stock springs on my 64 Dodge B body yesterday and the
front
part measured 20" . They must be stock springs, there is no front
spacer.
Herb is well informed, but something doesn't jibe--- The Question
continues...................MO
