I would assume it is galvanized. If so, it will look good for several years since you probably don't get out in road salt, rain, and mud. If coating it, I like to use 3M "body shutz" ( don't ask what "shutz" is- I have no idea! Harbor freight sells a cheap spray gun that screws right onto the can.
