I know of no reason other than the compression to use one head gasket over the other. Might be that the shim is better for race car type higher compressions but that's just speculation on my part. On my engine build plan, I was thinking to use the thinner gasket and if to much compression, install the thicker one---does this make sense?........................MO ----- Original Message ----- From: "Donald Gallimore" <dongallimore@xxxxxxx> To: <1962to1965mopars@xxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Wednesday, December 23, 2009 10:13 PM Subject: Re: head gaskets The Felpro normally used is about .042 compressed. There is a shim gasket (from Felpro or Mopar?) that is somewhere around 25-30 thousands thick. I used that one in my last head gasket change out. You can do a Google search for engine math sites out there where you can work on what compression you have. You can try the two gasket thickness' to determine whyat the different compression ratios will be. You'll need to find out the CCs of your heads or use the published values (and hope they are close to what you have.)
