RE: piston side clearance

Bill,
This is one of those questions best answered by the piston
manufacturer and/or your machine shop. Forged pistons are generally run
loose (I've heard numbers as loose as .010" for drag motors). If your
machine shop doesn't use a torque plate (which simulates head bolt clamping
loads on the block deck) you need additional clearance for that. Without
knowing all the details, I'd look for no less than .003" and no more than
.007" (I think Dave might have meant .0055", not .055").

Find a competent machine shop close to you. This is one of those
"separating-the-pepper-from-the-fly-speck" type things that really requires
close attention to accurate measurement. Stroker pistons generally have
short skirts, which makes side clearance critical to minimize the piston
rocking in the bore. Too much clearance and the pistons will "slap" when
cold, and can break a skirt. Too little and you're scuffing the walls and
skirts - until things seize up.

Dave
They are forged TRW pistons.
Any idea how much for this type?
Thanks
Bill

Please address private mail -- mail of interest to only one person -- directly to that person. I.e., send parts/car transactions and negotiations as well as other personal messages only to the intended recipient, not to the Clubhouse public address. This practice will protect your privacy, reduce the total volume of mail and fine tune the content signal to Mopar topic. Thanks!
