Re: charging issues



I don't know what Automotive Electrical in Akron did to my alternator in my '65 but it's output is excellent at idle.  He mentioned something about a diode changed or adding one.  Seems to be the solution. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Putting a bigger output alternator has been flagged many times as putting an serous overload on the connection at the firewall mounted bulkhead connector.

A higher output alternator will help, but the design of these units just doesn't pump a lot of amps at idle. If you can switch to a larger crank pulley to get some more alternator RPMs at idle, that will make a difference.
