Gary H,What you described is how I set the adjustables on my 440, and on my 273. Seemed the easiest route for me.
If for some odd reason someone put a 4-7 swap cam in, would have to make sure to adjust order to match.

Adjust half on the #1 firing position ( correct valves ! ) and the other half on the #6 firing position. When I was 16 I took my 64 Chebbie with solid lifter 396 transplant to a speed shop to adjust the valves.
