Don, I was looking at a site that sells and rebuilds AFBs and they say the following: " As most good mechanics know the AFB Carter carburetor is the same basic carburetor as the Edelbrock carburetor and the Edelbrock is copied from the AFB Carter..We use the same exact parts inside both the AFB Carters and Edelbrocks. . ". So, in your opinion then, are the AFB and the Edelbrock the same or close to it in terms of reliability and performance? Thanks/ Butch/ Ferndale, WA

I just never liked them . They were part of the CAP package and i spent many
hours repairing them in Road Runner 383s. Given the choice i would have an
AFB anyday. Set them and drive them for 20 or 30 years untouched. Avs dont
seem to me anyway to have good throttle respnse. Some guys like them . I
guess i just dont. Could be just me . i am no big fan of Thermoquads either
even though I made thousands $ overhaulling them and trouble shooting. Even
had a guy drive here from Floirda to get one fixed because he couldnt seem
to get it done there. Still even though I understood them and could fix them
they were to me an overcomopicated collection of 131 parts doing the same
job 30 parts could do perfectly well. Hey I am a prejudiced old far- and not
likely to change now.
