Assuming the pan is out of the car,I use a piece of scrap aluminum ( a piece of wood would be ok)on the bolt head side and gently hammer the protrusions flat, the problem I see some guys do is they go crazy and hammer the heck out of it. The objective is too flatten the surface not swedge it beyond recognition. This is one area where patience is important. You might want to research some of the gasket companies to see if you can get one of the new steel reinforced gaskets for this cutie. Don't forget to put a touch of extra sealer on the 4 corners, hopefully yhis will help out.

I'm getting some leakage around the rubber seals in the front and rear of my oil pan. All the pan holes have been pushed in by the pan bolts; I'm wondering if a simple fix is to flatten those out? I don't have a vice (sp?) or anything resembling one, so am a bit unsure how to go about flattening those out, so some MacGyver-like suggestions are welcome :-) Thanks in advance, Brian Safford '62 Dart 440 4-door / Poly 318
