OK, am I missing something

I cannot get the knob  to come out of my 64 cudas headlight switch.
     Yep,  I know about the button, and have tried every possible
combination , of button  pushing, tugging, yanking , turning  etc.etc,
and the sucker will not come out. tempted to lop it off and just go
find another switch and knob.
  am I missing something?
 PS, yes I have soaked it in penetrating fluid too
