Do you have a Long Ram intake or something other than the T-10 that is
unsual?  If not I never supported the engine on a tranny pull.  If your
mounts are good the engine is not going anywhere.  And you need not be
concerned about your distributor cap!!   (;  I'm sure you know now is a good
time to get that rear seal.  I am not sure why you referred to jacking the
engine on a tranny pull.  Is their something your not telling us?

I need to pull the 4-speed transmission out of my 63 Sport Fury. I have
a 383 and Borge Warner T-10 in the car. If I had help and more time I
would prefer to remove the transmission and engine together but at this
time it is not an option.  My rear main seal is leaking but that can
wait for now.
 
I checked the manual and it referred to a fixture to support the rear of
the engine?
 
I was considering a length of 4"X4" wood with blocks on each end that
would go up to the block castings on each side of the pan and jacking up
the engine.
 
Is there a better way?
 
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
