vinyl top option

Were vinyl tops a factory or dealer installed option on 64 polara 2 dr 
hardtops?  I did see an advertisement with the vinyl top prices 
($69)from 1964. i very seldom see any pictures with cars with a vinyl 
top.
Also, any pros and/or cons in regards to installation and issues with 
vinyl tops such as leakage, moisture rusting away the roof, etc.
