I had a similar thing and lubed the cable several times and even replaced
it. nothing changed. I finally took the dash apart and lubed the speedo it
self. that fixed it. Dave O

Subject: Screaming Speedometer
I recently decided to take my newport out to stretch it's legs and every
now then then, for lack of a better description) the speedometer made
this screaming noise, and the needle would bounce around wildly... then
it would just stop..
Is my speedo cable going? is it the cold weather? any ideas?
