I had the same problem with my 63 Doge. I unscrewed the cable at the Speedo head and checked that the inner cable was seating ok, then screwed it back on and now everything is fine.

I recently decided to take my newport out to stretch it's legs and every now then then, for lack of a better description) the speedometer made this screaming noise, and the needle would bounce around wildly... then it would just stop.. Is my speedo cable going? is it the cold weather? any ideas? ----Please address private mail -- mail of interest to only one person -- directly to that person.
