Re: 1956 Desoto Adventurer Dual Quad Hemi Engine ID Number???

Also - Are you sure its a 330? According to my info, the 330 was only made in '56 and in 2bbl (firedome) and 4bbl (fireflite) configs. If your engine really has 2x4bbl carbs on a factory manifold, either they were swapped on, or you have a 341 (Adventurer), which is engine #S24A and casting #1856629.

Look for a date code too, which could suggest - but not 100% confirm - if the block is original to the car. For instance, I once had a '67 Fury III wagon with a factory 440 (rare), the block was unstamped but dated late '66, which is what it should be. But with a little digging I found an aluminum "factory replacement engine" tag riveted to the block, which says to me the original engine blew up for one reason or another very soon after purchase.

good luck

The casting number for a '56 Desoto 330 Hemi block is 1636629. On Dodge and Chrysler blocks, the casting number can be found on the driver's side top of the block, in the narrow space between the deck and the lifter valley cover. I would assume this to be the case for DeSotos as well but cannot be 100% certain. It may be on the other side, and in any event may be tough to see with the intake installed.. but it will definitely be somewhere...

Good Luck.

My neighbor by the shop has both a 56 Desoto Adventurer 2 Door Hardtop, and a Convertible. Both are supposedly original engined cars having 330cu inch Hemi's with dual quads. The convertible has the engine ID number located where the book shows it should be "directly behind the water pump on the boss" The hardtop has the boss there but no numbers. Is there another place he could look? Is there a chance this was a replacement block or something? Any ideas ??? Thanks in advance Guys! Lyle in Montana

Yup, looks like that one. Only difference I can tell is mine
is for a RB block where that one is for a B block. I'd
give the $200.00 roughly that that manifold sold for with
freight, just to have it. They are out there, just gotta
watch for them.
