Re: Sure Grip for sale

Jimmie, if the '65 Belevdere rearend you plan to upgrade is from the so-to-be-440 powered wagon you list in your sig, a 741 case is not a good choice to invest in. The pinion stem was not designed to support the torque even a mild 440 will produce, especially in a 3900lb vehicle.

Furthermore, unless you have some good used gears or NOS gearsets, 741 ring and pinions are unavilable and have zero aftermarket support. There is a reason for this.

The Chrysler 8 3/4 guide penned by a person nicknamed Vaanth is essential reading - Google it. It explains clearly the different cases and their strengths and weaknesses. If you want to go for a sure-grip - which is a great idea - I'd look for a 742 (my choice) or a later 489 case (biggest pinion stem). Either of these will be more than adequate unless your 440 is a really wild one.

Best Regards

Wakeman

Gary,

So this would change my 1-legged 741 on my '65 Belvedere into sure grip? Do I leave my current high geared ring and pinion in. Would this then be the time to get a lower geared rear end? What does this entail??

And finally How much?

Thanks again as always.

Take Care,
