Re: VIN / trunk stamping?

Bill,

I found the "M 37 1" stamped on the rad support a few inches down on
the front face. My stickers are original and in great shape and I'm
reluctant to mess with them. I'll try the mirror approach.

Mainly I'm trying to understand the "M 37 1" stamping and it's
meaning. I believe I'd find the same value stamped under the weather
stripping in the trunk on the driver side edge. Since Fender Tags and
core supports aren't integral parts of the car and can be tampered
with, what I'd really like to know is if this stamping in the trunk
can be used to help confirm or deny a car's authenticity. For
instance, does it relate to anything on the broadcast sheet or the ibm
card? I'm comfortable in my car's authenticity; I'm using it as an
example.

Thanks.

- Jim
