This has come up before, but not too recently. There's only a minor difference in the rooster comb where the gear select cable connects. I believe the pushbutton units are set up so it's easier to shift whereas the console units take a little more effort. Someone who has done the swap will surely fill us in on the nitty gritty.

Hi, My wife karen has decided that she wants a 383 4V in her 64 Polara 500 convert (console automatic). Now, faced with the hardship of having to put in a strong engine, I have a few questions about the tranny. Is there a difference in a big block pushbutton tranny and the console shifted unit? Does the shifting mechanism from the console car have to be swapped over? Is there really a difference in the neutral starting switch between a console car and a pushbutton car? (Ebay seems to list different units.) Please help me. Thanks, K. Kevin R.
