I had sent this earlier, but it seems to have gotten lost out there somewhere. The casting date "10-7-76" negates the 1982 model year idea. October 7, 1976 was well within the 1977 model year. The "7' in the engine number is for the 1977 model year.. The "T" is for the Trenton engine plant and "440" for the engine size. The "11" is part of the date code for the engine assembly - there are two numbers missing. The "302" means it was the 302nd engine built that day. Or if the numbers are laid out as "11 30 2", the engine was assembled on November 30, (1976), 2nd shift. Check the passenger side of the engine, just aboe the oil pan rail and behind the engine mount. There should be eight numbers/letters stamped into the block Those eight digits are the last eight digits of the VIN for the car / truck the engine was installed. I understand the block > casting number but the stamping has me puzzled. Could it be an 82 model > motor home? Anybody want to comment?
