shift buttons

Clear DayIt never stops. For some reason my drive button does not want to 
engage. All the other buttons work fine, and the trans shift cable is lined 
up properly. Does anyone have a clue what might be going on? It goes in, but 
won't lock, so I don't have drive. I can get under the dash and see the 
lever moving and the spring tightening up, but it won't lock.HELP!!!!!
