I wish mine had a four speed too! I am going to change the filter and fluid and hope that fixes it.
Thanks

My '65 used to do the exact same thing. I never bothered to figure out why.
Now it has a four speed.

Dan,
I can't believe, it but you are correct. It goes into reverse and park now.
I had driven it for over an hour and it was hot outside. It has been sitting
for the past 5 hours and I went outside and it just moved freely!

I have checked the fluid recently and it was clean, but i guess that it does
need a change and new filter. Funny thing is I had tried an hour after
driving it, and it was still stuck.

Thanks for the diagnosis.

John

John, I don't know if this is your problem or not but years ago I had a
64 Chrysler 300K and sometimes after a long drive I couldn't get the
lever into reverse or park. However if I shut it of and let it sit for
awhile then it would be ok. (Did you try that btw?) I sold the car to my
niece and one day she called me and said the car wouldn't move at all. I
had the car towed to a friend if mine's shop and he dropped the pan and
changed the tranny filter and put if fresh fluid and the car was fine.
He said the filter was plugged and that's why I was having trouble
sometimes getting it into reverse or park after a long drive. Maybe you
have the same problem?

Dan
