I'd say do whatever you feel you need to do. I had the same issues with a 390 Ford and installed a remote adapter to reduce the mess. As was said, make sure the routing of the lines is correct. The adapters I had were each marked "in" and "out" for the ports. Without putting much thought into it, I connected the two "out" ports together, and the two "in" ports together. It actually ran like that for a while too. It built oil pressure but always leaked at the oil filter. Obviously you want the "out" port on the engine adapter connected to the "in" port on the oil filter adapter, and so on. Also, make sure the hose is pressure rated. A discount auto store slipped me some cheap heater hose one time, and one of the lines blew on the first drive after installing it.
