RE: First welder advice?

Hi there,

I was in the same position. I had never welded before and was not sure
what to do.

Tig is great but more money.

I bought a Lincoln 125 Plus mig welder that came with the gas kit. When
you buy a welder arrange to get a bottle of Argon/CO2 mix for shield
gas. You will not be unhappy.

Miller, Hobart and others also make welders. They all seem to be very
similar and parts are readily available for any of them.

The mig welders will also utilize flux core wire which is good if you
are in a windy setting where there is a chance that the gas would be
blown away from the weld otherwise solid mig wire and the shielding gas
is the way to go.

My welder will do stainless (with the correct wire) and will do aluminum
(with the correct wire, gas and another insert for the nozzle.

The welding shops can provide very good advise and should also be able
to demonstrate what each feature is (flux core, solid wire etc.)

In summary, I'm very happy with mine.

Regards,

K.
