This one should be potent enough for you.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpNy2l1wq6Q&eurl That is 9.6 to 1 compression , 452 headed 400. It made 408 rear wheel. (approx 500 flywheel hp) It was though a high end version for road racing , The 400 cheapie which is very similar only with normal parts can be built on a shoestring budget and can approach a real 500 HP when everything is right. If you have the DVD or any that do the black Mirada in there (same one i am setting the timing on is running the 400 cheapie there. I want one in my 63 when i reflog my max wedge in 2008 Here is the basic recipe but the tricks are in the book. Piston KB 240 (fit for severeor marine use (+001 clerance) Rings Hastings Racing rings (low tension) or Total Seal Street Rings. (oBEY top ring gap specs for hypereutechtic pistons KB240) Rods stock , resized with good bolts. (I prefer milodon ) Stock crank regound to low limts Clevlite bearings full grooved mains Clevlite cam bearings. Plain (I really mean this! AVOID fancy looking timing gear set ups) Sealed power or Mellong etc double roller (NOT true roller) chain and gear set . Hydraulic cam . i use my own regound specials but a comp cams 305 H is close to similar specs at least. MP single valve springs for lifts to .540) Stock retainers Stock rockers stock pushrods can be used but a set of Sealed power (Federal mogul etc) are much lighter and just as strong. Windage tray (Mopar perfomance only) Any good hi volume oil pump. 214/181 valve set stainless preferred and recommended highly) Heads cc'd at least to 84 ccs . (Most stock head will be way above this) If Felpros are used for head gaskets machine heads an additional .020" My favourite for these engines is Holley Streeet Dominator with a 800 cfm carb. Dist mods as per book. or equivalent adjustment with newer MP dist. Chrome box or Standard ign LX101 if available. Accel small round coil (Superstock chrome or yellow) Block off heat riser passage in heads (Propane tray is best way but whatever) Pocket port the heads or have them profiled in the bowls on the Serdi machine (or Sunnen) Use Hemi oil pan and be sure to recalibrate your distributor. hang on and smile, have a chevy for lunch (take two , they're small blocks) TV producer Stepve Sheahan has a new more polished DVD on the OR stuff. His website just up this week is "mopar.bravehost.com." If you click on my senior dragster website below and go to test vehicle you can see the other 426 400 deal which was a total success in everyway. The cheapie ran very low elevens which was wonderful for a pump gas motor. the 426 which has no street manners ran mid tens and is now gouing in a RED. The 400 both the Lemans hi buck one and the 400 cheapie are very streetable. In fact the lemans car was out cruising in OLFEN Germany only a few weeks ago. Hardest thing in all this is to get people to believe these combos work this good. Always someone ALMOST does it but messes up in cam choice or overkills in head dept or puts on BIG tube headers instead of 1 7/8 . Usually with lots of encouragement from friends well meaning and otheriwse too. These are very good combos and we didint get here accidently so please of you build them do them right on if you can . in most cases any variation will lose power . (Cause we probably already tried it long before and chucked it already) Anyway that is the scoop. 400 is in my opinion one of the most overlloked engines in the Mopar camp. Because it was never built full bore people seem to think it cant run that way but it is a surprisingly potent little begger. (And just for the record i dont mean built as a 451 or 500 incher either i mean as a 400 cu in motor.)
