I'm not sure if this is true of 383's but the high performance versions of the 440 all have an "HP" stamped on the engine id pad. Are you guys sure there was a 383 2-bbl. in the early 60's? I know for sure in 1966 (at least in the B body) the economy big block was a 361 2-bbl. and the next step up was the 383 4-bbl. It wasn't until 1967 that the 361 was replaced by the 383 2-bbl. as the economy big block. I don't see anything listed in my 63 Fury liturature for a 383 2-bbl. either. Just the Commando 361 2-bbl. and the Golden Commando 383 4-bbl. Then to muddy the waters futher some early 383's were actually "RB" engines. I believe they were stroked 361's. And the first "B" block was not a 361 but a 350 (one year only in the 58 Fury) And then there was a 361 4-bbl. called the "Commando-395". I had one in a 61 Plymouth police car I owned.
