Thanks Bob. It's one of my highlights of the year, that show. Just a shame that I usually only get one day to look round. Did get to see all 3 days tho in 2004 when we had our 63 on a magazine's ('Classic American') stand. Just about saw everything that year! This was the first year that I tried to take pictures using a tripod - last couple of years I'd tried either using my useless flash (not powerful enough) or trying to hold still without the flash and avoid camera shake. As the lights are a bit orange in there (sodium?) and not very bright I thought it worth the effort to carry a tripod round. I'm pretty pleased with the results! Sorry to say, the Sting Ray is a 'faithful recreation' of, erm, whatever they were called back then. Stunning bit of kit tho.
One other good aspect of the show is that one area is set aside for owners of all sorts of classics who are willing to take members of the public out for approx 10 mile trips around the local roads, all for charity. Each passenger pays from £10 for a more low-key 'classic' to around £65 (the most expensive I noticed) for something like a new Aston Martin DB9 or new Lamborghini thingy. 2 Mopar club members were involved this year, one with a General Lee look-alike and one with an '04 SRT10 Mamba Viper. My son went out in the Viper and the driver said they managed to get up to 110mph in 3rd gear along one bit of the route! Police do keep an eye on them tho, so I presume he got away with that one! The guy with the Charger said he ran virtually non-stop from 10am till 4.30pm on the Sunday and raised £700 (approx $1300) for the children's charity. In all, nearly £36,000 ($68,500) was raised over the 3 days. Check this out http://www.sportingbears.org.uk/DreamRides/2006/DreamRides2006.htm - goes to show classic car ownership can do some good!!
Just hope we get asked to put our 63 on our club stand sometime soon so I can spend more time there again. Normally they try to follow a theme (Chargers this year, predictably!), so I did mention to our club chairman that I though we could have some early cars one year, now we have a 62 Dodge, our 63 Dodge, a 64 Fury (the one with the hemi on the stand this year) and a couple of 65 Satellite's to choose from over here - I'd like to see one from each year. I wouldnt say it exactly fell on deaf ears but they're more likely to stick with the more popular models of B & E bodies just to appeal more to the general public.
I will keep trying though! Robert 63 Polara 500 England----- Original Message ----- From: "Bob Fortson" <bobt1885@xxxxxxxxx>

What a wonderfully eclectic collection ! I hope all here will appreciate your fine photography and the whimsical, expensive, rare, expensive and beautiful progression of the art of car making this show demonstrates...and that is one of the "REAL" sting rays...right? Thanks for the tour... Hope I'm ok to post this link - just the one 62-65 on show at this year's 3-day Classic Car show at Birmingham's National Exhibition Centre. And that was only cos one of our club members managed to crash his 73 Charger on the way to the show last Thursday! The guys on the stand made a quick call to one of the local member's who thankfully agreed to get his 64 Fury there at short notice. The driver of the 73 is fine but his car will need a bit of work to a few panels and both bumpers. Some pics here, quite a variety, hopefully something for everyone!http://www.imagestation.com/album/pictures.html?id=2100157972&code=24912793&mode=invite&DCMP=isc-email-AlbumInviteRobert 63 Polara 500 England [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] ---- Please address private mail -- mail of interest to only one person -- directly to that person.
