If the car was a NHRA race car they are allowed under certain conditions to convert cars to the next year or model For instance I had a friend who ran a ES/a car as a 71 and he was allowed to make it a 72 (Tailights and grill ) so he could switch to the lower compression 340 combo that was factored better. If I had a 63 Polara hrtp but wanted a two dr post for a class reason but had the car all set up and working perfect it would be much easier to pop on a set of 2 dr sedan doors and weld in a window post than it would be to make a whole other car which any experienced racer will tell you might just not ever work as well as the proven deal. Never say never is a good rule to live by. Unlikey or unprobable is ok but never? I dont think one can go that far. However to be honest my patience for the numbers matching crowd is nonexistant. First there is no such thing with our cars anyway since it wasnt done back then and secondly I built mine to drive and enjoy and I dont give two hoots about whether it is a clone or not. if it wasnt I wouldnt be able to afford it anyway. Often these guys are the same ones who claim thier 63 Dodge had a "Frame off" restoration. That i would like to see!!!!! However if you are the type who likes all that " first one built, day three, hamtrack plant owned by so & so and sold here. that is fine by me. I respect your desire to enjoy that. , it just aint my thing. (And if you dont like my clone keep it to yourself)I just wrote an article about this for Canadian Classics magazine and I guess it is in this months issue. Bottom line was the only car we have the right to criticize is our own car. Don BTW I just remembered I do own the very first V 10 Ram ever ordered from Chrysler carrying order no ---001 but that was purely accidental and probably wasted on a lowlife like me. I do know enough though to keep all the documentation so that when I am gone and my wife has to sell it she wont get robbed.
