Subject: headers vs. manifolds
On a street car with full dual exhausts, are headers louder? Are they
hotter under the hood, without ceramic coating?
Thanks,
Sean

Sean,
Yes much louder and hotter.
Hello List
My Two Cents Worth......
LOUDER....if you mean tail pipe noise....maybe quieter with an equal
length tube....
A correct size exhaust (large enough) will lower the frequency of the
sound...(ford glass pack crack)
we used to call the blat sound from those particular cars.
H-pipe and X-pipes will also soften the tone, 8 pulses, both pipes sound
great.
LOUDER...if you mean under hood noise....yeah....tinny is a adjective
that comes up....the headers will
magnify valve and engine mechanical noise and the sound of the exhaust
in the headers....kind of a chuff sound...
HOTTER....probably....every car I have put headers on smell of burning
rubber afterwards. Usually strong
enough of a smell that a check for rubber against hot pipes is usually
looked for.....
By this super rocket science...i say the underhood temps go up....
end of my two cents
