When you say the plates are cleared, what do you mean? My understanding is that the donor car had to be declared "dead" to the DMV, and thus making those plates available. 63 was the first year of the Black plate/yellow lettering AFAIK. If your car is a 63, I can't see why it would be a problem unless of course the plates aren't cleared. I know several other people that have these plates. I can ask them directly if you like. MJ Thanks for the helpful info. I'm trying to get these plates n a 1968 vehicle. The plates are "cleared" meaning they are not currently registered to any car. The '68 vehicle is currently registered and has the normal white Calif. plates on them. Today, the DMV tried telling us that since the plates are stamped '63, we can only use them on a '63 vehicle. We explained that the black/yellow letter plates were all stamped '63 and were used through '68 or '69. But they wouldn't listen. They want verification that these plates were originals off the '68 car, which they're not.
