vacuum gauge reads 16 at idle. i originally had a vacuum leak at the base of the carb, i fixed that hoping that was the problem, no luck. i also dont understand why i lose so many rpm when i put the car in gear.

Colin, have you checked for vacuum leaks? What does a vac.gauge read at idle? Any backfiring through the carb when at wide open throttle?
