From a posting on the Mopar Mailing List the new "AVS" by
Edelbrock does not have the same mechanical structure as the original AVSs.
The AVSs had a brass tube instead of the venturi system of the AFBs (in the secondaries).
It sounds like the new AVS is a combination of the air valve with the AFB style venturi.
This was probably to ease the transition of the secondaries slamming open and causing a momentary lean condition until the fuel flow could catch up with the air.
The double pumper Holley is a carb of its own...it has squirters on the secondaries that shoot as the secondaries start to open....takes care of the lean problem. Some models would open everything at the same time and squit all 4 throats.
People sing the praise of the Holley Double Pumper....I guess I've never had a car light enough with enough power to make them work.
AVS...4640 is a nice number...automatic 440 1969...biggest throttle plates....I've got two but still willing to pick up a couple more...
