My first time dealing with tappered axles. It appears that others here have had this same problem. Up to 1963 the 741 open case used a 30 1/2" axle. 741 SG & 742 SG cases used a 30 7/16" axle. When the ends of the 30 1/2" axles are up against the thrust block of a SG unit, the axles are extending 1/16" at the end of the housing not allowing the .013 to .023 axle clearance. Randy's instructs you to remove the "buttons" from the end of the axle and they will slip right in. There are no buttons on the end of these axles. I have machined these axles to fit with the proper end play. I called Randy's again today and I was told to machine the axles, all the B body guys do this. I thanked them for the tech support, advised them to credit my account when I return the u-joint/rear axle bearings/inner & outter axle seals which did not fit either, and asked if I was the first 1963 Ply they helped with in-stock parts.
