"all cars" is a pretty broad statement, my car was all original when i bought it, it was gold everywhere, i have only heard of "chevy" guys painting these areas black, before this thread. i have seen many originals, none with the black treatment.

I do have a question about the way the the black
headlights clear over tobehind the grille. It extended from behind the
grille all you wouldthe radiator. When you looked through the front
used on this car wassee is black... no red body color.
Does anyone know whether the black-out method
then I've seen a lot offactory correct? If that's the correct way,
undercoating was applied andincorrect restorations...BrianPerhaps it had to do with if and when the
by whom.I've seen more Plymouth's that way thanDodges, even Dodges with
undercoating and Plymouth's without it.nope. the "behind the grille black out" was used on
all cars, except those that were body color black, dark green, or
dark blue.
my 63 Dodge 330 was a stripped down 330 wagon, body
color white, with
the black out, my 64 Dart is beige car with the
black out. same goes
for my 67 Dart GT (gold).
I was advised that the correct color was semi-gloss
black. after
applying that color to the blackout area on my 63
Dodge, and comparing
it to what was there before and what is on my 64
Dart, I think semi-gloss is the correct color.
