(just set them all the same) with the throttle wide open, check for .015-.02 clearance (play) on the acc. pump adjuster i would put the 72's back in for the initial tune. play with the jets after you get the carb to behave. (the engine idles off the idle curcuit not the jets) (if the throttle blades are correct!!!) now, screw one of the mixture screws in, does the engine want to die? 1.if it does then go the method of screwing each in till the engine starts to get rough, then turn out till it idles best. all screws should be equally turned by 1/4 turn increments, then by 1/8 turns 2. if the engine doesn't want to die when you turn the mixture screw in, then the butterflies need to be adjusted equally until a mixture screw has the ability to kill the motor. there is a diaphram in the acc. pump, make sure it is not torn. there is also a little red rubber "mushroom valve" or check ball, depending on model, in the acc. pump area of the bowl that needs to be in place. The secondary diaphram must also be checked for tears. let me know what you find tom 65 satelllite "Ben Jr. Morgan" <polara_hotrods@xxxxxxx> wrote: Ok, well that clears one thing up, but today the super richness came back Could this still be related to the jets. This is on a 383 so the I believe that the jets need to be relatively down. I'll see if I can get some 68's tomorrow, and work up from there. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated for this 17 year old that kinda know what he's doing lol Fortunately, I pulled a couple plugs, and they weren't white, but didn't have that much build up on them also. So I'm kinda confused. Smells like its running way rich, but not like the vacuum leak kinda smell, just rich. It ran richer than hell before, and had a bog (by the way, I had recently jetted from 72 to 63). After the rebuild, It still ran richer than hell, with a bog. I found one problem, the accelerator pump lever had no gap what so ever (oops, shoulda checked that). So I fixed that and now its not running so rich any more (before people wouldn't even tailgate me, not that that's a bad thing lol). But it still bogs in the low rpms and occasionally coughs, also, coasting against the motor brings a pretty ripe rich smell. I've checked for vacuum leaks by vacuum gauge, and poured some water around the intake manifold and listened for the motor to bog. I haven't found any vacuum or intake leaks. Any suggestions?
