Also, a guy I know said, "you can ASK any price; what it sells for is
often different." :) 

So anywhere from $100 up seems the overall general answer for a 383 short
block asking price.  

That said, I know a gent who, cleaning out his storage, gave away a
383 so he would not have to haul it to a scrap metal buyer. "Come and
get it" he said.
