Bill, thanks. I had thought of a similar idea as the simplest way for me to proceed and may well try it. I am reassured by your experience.I have a question though. Is there a risk of damage to the transmission if one forgets the shutdown and startup sequences you describe? ie. What would happen if you did not disengage the parking pawl/sprag before starting the engine and engaging Drive?Reading tips on this site, maybe the shifter mechanism on the transmission itself is different on your 65 from the one on my 62?DavidOn Tue, Jul 25, 2023, 21:47 Bill Helm <modigger1@xxxxxxxxxxx> wrote:--Hi, Gary & David -Yes, I still visit your very helpful website. Mine is a 1960 DeSoto which, after restoration, now has a 1965 aluminum Torqueflite with park sprag. The first pic shows the configuration of my pushbuttons. The restorers chose to "hide" the park function with a cable and knob (second pic) so-as-to not mess up the dash layout/appearance. It's the knob closest to the steering column. So to engage park after stopping the car, I select neutral, turn off the engine, apply the parking brake and push the park knob in. The car rolls very slightly until it grabs a cog. Then to start, the process is reversed - start car, release parking brake, pull on park knob (which releases it from the cog), select a gear and go. I like this rather clever approach, because not only does it leave the dash clean from a lever, it also serves a security purpose. The park sprag knob is not labeled, so if a perp attempts to steal the car while it's parked, he/she will be able to start the car and release the parking brake, but will be surprised that the pushbuttons will not engage a gear. The car goes nowhere until the park knob is pulled out, and it's not likely they will be able to figure that out. After all, they're a perp! 🙂Offered as an option to consider.Bill

Subject: Re: Welcome new member - 1964 Bristol 408Thanks for the update David.
When you get a chance post a photo of the dash of your 1964, showing the pushbutton setup there.
Maybe we can figure out how to add a suitable park lever.
I am assuming you just use a parking brake for now.
Thanks,
Gary H.
