Re: Fw: '64 Polara missing Steering Column Tube End Seal

I've seen that suggested on a couple of posts on a different forum Gary. I haven't had the Polara long and I'm still getting to know it and checking off my things to do list. I really hadn't noticed any excess heat from the column, but I wasn't happy with the amount of steering wheel free play and when I saw the seal was missing I wondered if it had something to do with stabilizing the steering shaft. From what I've been seeing/reading, my understanding is that it is actually just a heat/dirt seal. I have since tightened the steering gearbox adjustment and now I'm happy with the way it is handling. I will think about some insulation and maybe duct tape, but probably will just live with it until I have time to replace the seal properly, it's not a daily driver.

I seem to recall hearing of people putting some fiberglass insulation in the column behind the seal to reduce the amount of heat entering the car's interior. Sound correct?

Thanks,
