Thanks Gary,  that chart is a lot different than the one I was looking at on YouTube. I've been wondering since Mike said no 32 tooth pinions were made.   I'll check with Joe. 

Yes, it was clicking and the needle was bouncing. When that first happened I pulled the cable from the speedometer end and lubed it. After that it seemed ok for maybe a 100 miles or less and then one day just started clicking and jumping again for just a few miles then quit completely, no clicking and no needle movement. Does that sound like a pinion gear failure?

Was the speedometer needle bouncing a bit when you heard the clicking noise?
