I have built numerous 383's and the 383 will smoke most 413, 426 wedges and
440's
unless they are really built.  The 383 with 10.5 to 1 pistons, purple cam,
440 heads
lightweight flywheel, good headers and 850 cfm holly on a single plane
manifold is fast, put it in a B body with 4:10 gears and you have a very
fast car. I shift at 6500 rpm.
