Thanks for the info.
Do I still get rid of the vacuum advance for a street engine?

I am just finding it hard to get rid of my vacuum advance on a street
engine.  Doesn't it help on light part-throttle cruise and deceleration
situations?  

Maybe it is the chevy part of my brain that is having a hard time
letting it go?

I am already getting spark knock at low RPMs with moderate acceleration
at 10 degrees timing.  I hate to go with more initial timing.

It may be that I am running lean at light throttle acceleration?

Same deal as inthe book  Ken just a bit more gentle. The more cam the
faster the advance needs to be. Te limit though willl be aoutthe same.
This by the way really wakes upp these engines making them much easier
to drive and enjoy. 
Marine engines use a very similar advance curve and amount of mechanical
advance with no vacuum. They are often mild hi perf street engines.
