I've seen mine do that when the motor is fully warmed up because the gas line passes right next to the engine cause some gasoline evaporation gasses forming bubbles in the lines, but I've never heard of it getting that bad. Perhaps you should take the pump off and see if its stiff or not.

Can anyone give me an answer on this?
Sometimes while idling my 62 poly 318, the see-thru fuel filter is completely  
full of fuel. Other times, I can see the fuel pulsing into the filter so  
slowly it only keeps it 1/4 full (and when it is doing this, even reving the  
engine doesn't increase the slow flow in).
Is there something wrong with my fuel pump or is this normal?
