I'm running the 833-OD in my '65 Polara convertible behind a stock 413 4bbl. The thing about these transmissions is they have a low first gear, so you don't want to get too steep in the rear. I'm running my original 3.23 Sure Grip with 255/60R15's. 70 mph is about 2200 rpm. I've put at least a thousand miles on it since the swap. All I did was install new bearings and seals and turn down the bearing retainer to fit my bellhousing. It handles speed shifting fine, but I don't care to powershift it. It will also boil the tires if you want it to.

I got in the middle of this discussion and I have a couple of questions
about the 833 OD. I don't understand how they are designed. Is 3rd gear the OD
gear? Do you shift 1-2-4-3? Will the OD trans handle 450+ horsepower? I
see one for sale locally and was wondering if they would be good for high
performance applications. Thanks, Joe
