The best way to seal the pan gasket is use 3M yellow grillra snot. Use on pan side of the gasket then place extra on all four corners. Never had a leak or lost a gasket this way. You can remove the pan to without the gasket sticking to the engine. Been doing this for over 40 years. Just me nickels worth. I do no like useing the red or blue silacone stuff.

That's how I installed mine and it split out at the corners.
I also used a torque wrench and torqued the bolts in the correct
pattern.  I think next time I would torque the bolts to about 100 inch
lbs then wait until the Permatex dries some before I finished torquing
the bolts.  I think when it's wet it's too slippery.

I always apply a thin coat of permatex aviation form-a-gasket to both sides of the gasket. It hasn't failed me yet... And remember to never over-torque! ; )
