After browsing A&A Transmissions' website, I see that they offer bolt on overdrive units for the torqueflite, which is another possibility for what your friend has found. They also offer an adapter plate that will let you bolt a small block transmission to a big block or hemi. Thus you could put the A-518 on a big block or a 426 hemi as well.
