i'm not sure how much help i can be. i'm not a body man but i am a sheet
metal worker since 18 (56 now). i would lay the new panel on top of the cowl
section that needs to be cut out and scribe a line around its perimeter. i would
would probably use a cut off wheel on a die grinder and cut inside the line (a
die grinder with cut-off wheel should cut the sheet metal very easily without
distortion). i'd take my time and carefully fit the new panel in the cut out,
trail and error fitting until i got the closest butt fit. i always used a tig
welder for sheet metal, especially custom work.
