Hi Earl

Yeah, I want to know too! :-)

The more I dig into this the more interesting it becomes. Last night I
tried to troubleshoot it a little more so I pulled the coil wire out of
the distributor and held it about a quarter of an inch from some metal
on the engine, and with just the ignition on and the car NOT running it
keeps shooting a spark about 3 times per second. Obviously that is the
snapping noise I am hearing. I looked for carbon tracking 'cause I
figured this must be playing havoc with the high tension system.

I guess I will try to swap out the ECU tonight and see if that helps
any.

The car runs but has a bad miss on acceleration. I just figured it was
because the plugs and wires are about 30 years old. Probably time to
change them?

I will let you know what I find out. If only I could wire it to a flame
thrower exhaust system...

Regards,
Ken

Ken,

I have ask a couple of my racing buddies if they have ever heard of any
issue
like your having. Everyone just looks at me and says, "Really". For sure
there
is something wrong, but I don't know what.

Please do me a favor, let us know when you find it. I want to know
please.

Earl

Thanks Tom. It reminds me of the old Model T vibrating ignition. Maybe
I should wire it to a flame thrower exhaust? :-) Regards, Ken

This is not normal. The reluctor on the distributor shaft is what tells
the pickup when to signal the ECU to fire. It should not be firing on
it's own. I have seen spark before, by just turning the key on, but not
continuous firing. Buy a cheap ECU to prove the old one is whacked. Tom
